Hexabits/Puzzibits are flexible, durable, interlocking hexagonal puzzle pieces made
from recycled plastic. They link together by a
simply weaving method. Once connected, the puzzle or
design remains intact until purposefully taken
apart. They comes in a full range of colors that can be used to create mouse
pads, mats for the front door,
3-dimensional "critters" and anything else you can dream up! The
durable, high-grade latex-free material is play-safe,
sturdy and easy to clean. These kits make
substantial looking creations and give children a sense of
accomplishment. Projects can
be simple or elaborate, depending on age and level of
ability. They are
great to take along on a car trip or a plane ride, as
well. Ages 5 to adult.
Therapeutic
and Educational Benefits
While handling and manipulating the
pieces, children will improve their fine motor
skills. Weaving the pieces over and under each other
to interlock them strengthens bilateral coordination and
motor planning. Following a pattern to
complete a design will also strengthen organization,
planning, visualization, and following directions. They are a relaxing activity for kids who are kinesthetic
learners or who need extra tactile stimulation.
The individual pieces may be used as manipulatives for
counting, creating arrays of linked pieces, and
making repeating patterns. They may be used to
create customized patterns such as a child's name, a logo, an animal or object being discussed in a
class project. Hexabits/Puzzibits are fun for kids and an
excellent therapeutic tool for parents,
teachers, and occupational therapists.
