Math Upgrade is an innovative, complete on-line course
that is designed to help children, ages 5-12, learn for the first time or
review basic math skills and then move on to more advanced topics.
Sixty levels cover basic math, pre-algebra, geometry, and algebra.
Fun and motivating, Math Upgrade is filled with striking
animated sequences clearly and visually explaining math concepts, catchy
pop songs to help teach and remember math concepts, and plenty of games to
practice and master these concepts. Children
use web-connected computers to complete enjoyable self-paced lessons
featuring pop music, video, and games. In just 8 to 12 weeks of 30 to
60-minute sessions, to complete 60 lessons.
In Level 30 a catchy song teaches the Order of
Operations

In Level 48, swimmers crossing a swimming pool
demonstrate the concepts circumference, diameter and radius.
Once they have
completed Math Upgrade, children
receive a bronze certificate and are prompted to repeat sections where
they scored 90% or less and once they complete these sections at 90% or
above, they receive a silver certificate. They are prompted again to
repeat sections of the course where to score 95% or above and once they
achieve this, they receive a gold certificate of graduation from the
course. Repeating sections where they scored less than 95% helps to
reinforce these math concepts. The children have unlimited access to the
course for one full year.
To use the course, children simply log onto the web site
for Math Upgrade and enter their username and password. Parents and
teachers have access to web based reports to track individual students,
classes attendance and progress. It is well suited to be used in
schools, virtual schools, after school programs, and by parents at
home. It is also well suited to teach math concepts to older and
adult learners and to help overcome math phobia.
For public schools, Math Upgrade, Reading Upgrade, and
Math Upgrade on-line courses all meet the requirements of No Child Left
Behind and Title 1.
