directly compatible with hundreds of applications, but if you have an
older application that is not compatible, you can force Windows XP to provide

Autism and Immunization
April 19,
2005. According to this week's Newsweek and Science News magazines,
a study carried out at the University of Arkansas Children's Hospital
by by S. Jill James, director of biochemical
genetics, indicates that children in the autism spectrum have unusually low levels
of Glutathione.
Glutathione is an anti-oxidant that binds to heavy metals in the body, including mercury, and is
a critical component of detoxification. In a study of 75 autistic
children and 95 neurotypical children, all 75 autistic children had
unusually low levels of an active form of Glutathione. This adds credibility to the
theory that immunizations containing mercury in the form of the
preservative, thimerisol, would not be detoxified well by these
children, linking immunizations to mercury poisoning and autism. Glutathione is essential for proper functioning of the immune system,
brain, and intestinal tract. According to James, preliminary results
indicate that the Glutathione levels are increased to normal levels when
children are given methyl B12, Trimethylglycine, and an active form of
folic acid.
IDEA
2004 Information
Now that IDEA 2004
legislation was signed into law on by President Bush on December 3,
2004, families of children with special needs are awaiting the impact,
when it becomes law on July 1, 2005. IDEA is the key piece of
legislation that entitles children with special needs to receive an
education in the public schools. We recommend that parents and
guardians of school-age children become familiar with the new
guidelines. For an analysis by the California Board of School
administrators, click here. Other
excellent resources are wrightslaw.com,

their special needs children, copaa.net,

Parent
Survey Indicates Enzymes
Benefit Children
According to a survey of 260 parents using
the enzymes, Peptizyde and
Zyme Prime, over a seven month period, 90%
of parents observed sustained behavioral improvements in their children.
Virtually all of these parents saw improvements within two weeks of
starting these enzymes.
Peptizyde breaks down gluten and casein proteins commonly
found in wheat and dairy products. Some experts in autism consider
gluten and casein to be problematic for autistic children.
HN-Zyme Prime is
a complementary broad-spectrum enzyme, which helps to promote proper
digestion and assimilation of all foods, and provides some benefit for
children with phenol sensitivities.
These two enzymes complement each other when used
together and are acceptable for special diets such as
the Gluten Free/Casein Free diet and the Feingold diet.
Peptizyde
and Zyme-Prime are available from Autism Coach.

balance system. In two weeks he was riding. More

Wonderful co-operative
games for the holidays and year round.
Brainy
Games provides 3 games in a single box that exercise visualization,
logic and strategy skills. These games include the Griddle Game where
you create as many complete and unburnt breakfasts as possible, and the

players have to help the human and animal families get past crevices to
reach their homes. Funny Face
is a pantomime game for young children that is great for parties and for
developing social skills. In Max,
children have to help little creatures get to their homes before Max,
the tomcat, catches them. Round Up,

the range and children have to round up as many as they can and bring

taken the villagers' treasures and is now asleep at the top of the
beanstalk and the players work together to recover the treasure.
These games are wonderful for

party games. More
Immunization Studies
September
2004. A new study linking immunization to autism was presented
to a congressional subcommittee on September 8. The study
found that thimerosal (a preservative
containing mercury that has been widely used in immunizations) triggered autism-like symptoms in a strain of mice genetically
susceptible to autoimmune disorders (as are many autistic
children). Also,
three studies published in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons
challenge the findings of a widely sited Danish study that
claimed there was no connection between introduction of the MMR vaccine
in Denmark and an increased incidence of autism. More

Parents Believe Immunization Triggered their Child's Autism
Inspired
by recent studies reopening the immunization/autism debate, we decided
to take a poll of Autism Coach customers to determine what they felt
triggered their child's autism. As of October 14, 70% of
respondents indicated that they believed immunizations triggered their
child's autism and another 5.5% believe immunizations were partially
responsible. More
Underconnectivity in Autism

August,
2004. The analogy of autism as a puzzle has taken on new meaning
as a team of researchers at Carnegie Melon University and the University
of Pittsburgh examined the brains of people in the autism spectrum using
functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans. The
researchers believe that abnormalities in the white matter of the brain
making up the "cables" that connect the parts of the brain to
each other, have resulted in a lack of coordination
between brain areas. The new findings
have led the researchers to propose a new theory of the basis of autism, called
the Underconnectivity Theory, which proposes that autism is a system-wide brain disorder
limiting coordination and integration between brain areas.
The
Gifted/Autism Spectrum
Gifted children and autistic children may be part
of the same spectrum. New research in mapping brain activity
provides new intriguing insights into the connections between autism and
giftedness, music and language. More
